I have spent this week with a suspected case of food poisoning. 😁 Needless to say, it has been a less than enjoyable week (so why did I bother to say that?). I have been thinking about the relationship between health and happiness. I think I am generally a happy person and generally a healthy one. I battle my weight and IBS but manage to muddle along most days feeling pretty good. I realized this week, however, that when I am ill, that illness overtakes me and I tend to get very melancholy. I suppose this is true of most people to some degree.
I was struck by remembering a dear friend of mine who battled breast cancer a few years ago. She never asked "why me?" That still amazes me. I tend to ask that question all the time when I am ill or even when things don't seem to be going right for me. I find this a true character flaw, I wish I could be stronger and more willing to deal with what life hands me.
I wonder with all this talk about healthcare reform, will I find myself even more frustrated as I watch my healthcare costs rise? I already am agonizing over what the cost of my recent visit to urgent care/emergency room will cost. Perhaps I should focus on the wonderful care I received at both places, especially the kindness of the nurses and doctors and hope that they will continue to exercise such great care in the face of such radical changes in healthcare.
